The mission of the Institute (IG PAS) is to study geophysical processes and carry out monitoring, act for the benefit of society and economic development, develop strategic research infrastructure, and educate future leaders of the science community.
An important element of the activity is the popularization of Earth sciences. For many years the Institute has been actively cooperating with school network in Poland and Europe, offering lessons in the observatories or direct transmissions from the Polish Polar Station Hornsund. The Institute is the implementer of many educational projects (EDUSCIENCE, ERIS, EDU-ARCTIC, the continuation of which is EDU-ARCTIC2 program). In 2014, the Institute received prestigious title of ”Science Popularizer”. The staff are scientists (e.g. glaciologists), educators, methodologists, authors of educational materials.
