An epoch began during which large areas of North America and Eurasia were covered by ice sheets. This epoch was later called the PLEISTOCENE.
The glaciated areas in Pleistocene in the northern hemisphere were divided into two major ice sheets – the Laurentide Ice Sheet and the Eurasian Ice Sheet composed of several domes: the British-Irish Ice Sheet (BIIS), the Scandinavian Ice Sheet (SIS), and the Svalbard-Barents-Kara Ice Sheet.
